God is not human, that he should lie,
not a human being, that he should change his mind.
Does he speak and then not act?
Does he promise and not fulfill?
I have received a command to bless;
he has blessed, and I cannot change it.
“No misfortune is seen in Jacob,
no misery observed in Israel.
The Lord their God is with them;
the shout of the King is among them.—Numbers 23.19-21

BALAK - the King of Moab, Israel’s enemy
BALAAM - a witch doctor & false prophet

13 Then Balak said to him, “Come with me to another place where you can see them; you will not see them all but only the outskirts of their camp. And from there, curse them for me.” 14 So he took him to the field of Zophim on the top of Pisgah, and there he built seven altars and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
15 Balaam said to Balak, “Stay here beside your offering while I meet with him over there.”
16 The Lord met with Balaam and put a word in his mouth and said, “Go back to Balak and give him this word.”
17 So he went to him and found him standing beside his offering, with the Moabite officials. Balak asked him, “What did the Lord say?”

18 Then he spoke his message:
“Arise, Balak, and listen;
hear me, son of Zippor.
19 God is not human, that he should lie,
not a human being, that he should change his mind.
Does he speak and then not act?
Does he promise and not fulfill?
20 I have received a command to bless;
he has blessed, and I cannot change it.
21 “No misfortune is seen in Jacob,
no misery observed in Israel.
The Lord their God is with them;
the shout of the King is among them.
22 God brought them out of Egypt;
they have the strength of a wild ox.
23 There is no divination against Jacob,
no evil omens against Israel.
It will now be said of Jacob
and of Israel, ‘See what God has done!’
24 The people rise like a lioness;
they rouse themselves like a lion
that does not rest till it devours its prey
and drinks the blood of its victims.”

25 Then Balak said to Balaam, “Neither curse them at all nor bless them at all!” 26 Balaam answered, “Did I not tell you I must do whatever the Lord says?” —Number 23.13-25

The shout has the power to

the curses and hinder the plans of the enemy.

“The shout of the King is among them.”

1) The Shout Is By God

The Bible mentions shouting as a form of worship almost as many times as it mentions singing as a form of worship.

“Let all those who trust in Him shout” Psalm 5.11
“Shout unto God with a voice of triumph” Psalm 47.1
“The saints shall all shout aloud.” Psalm 149.5
“Shout you inhabitants of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.” Isaiah 12.6
“Let God’s people sing and shout from the mountaintops.” Isaiah 42.11
“Shout praises to God in the midst of the nations.” Psalm 57.9
“Shout, Oh Jerusalem, be glad and rejoice.” Zephaniah 3.14

2) The Shout Is A

  • The shout is the sound of worship and the sound of war.
  • The armies of the people of God started shouting before the battle started, while the battle was raging, and after the battle had been won.
  • Your Voice has power.
  • Proverbs 18.21, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”

3) The Shout Creates

  • Psalm 98, Shout for Joy to the LORD, all the earth; Break forth and sing for joy and sing praises.
  • Psalm 66 Shout for Joy to God, all the earth; Sing the glory of His name; Make His praise glorious.
  • Psalm 47 O clap your hands, all peoples; Shout to God with the voice of joy.
  • Zephaniah 3 Shout for joy, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem!

Emotions are good as long as they are made to behave themselves.

You are not called to obey your emotions. You are called to make your emotions obey you.

4) The Shout Enthrones The

The final shout of acclamation is the final act that officially enthrones a man as the new king.

Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the governor’s headquarters, and they gathered the whole battalion before him. And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews! —Matthew 27.27-29

5) The Shout With God

“And you were dead in your trespasses and sins…following the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience…But God, being rich in mercy, because of his great love for us…has made us alive together with Christ…. For he himself is our peace… and has reconciled us to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing hostility. And he preaches (proclaims, shouts) peace to those who are far off and peace to those who are near.” —Ephesians 2
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. —1 Thessalonians 4

“It is terrible to wake up on Easter morning and have no voice with which to shout, ‘He is risen!’ But it would be still more terrible to have a voice and have nothing to shout about.” —William Sangster
