Have you ever asking the question, “who am I” really?
Paul says in our sermon verse
2 Corinthians 13:5
Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test! ESV
Today, we will explore 3 different conditions we are living out at any one time.
I. Sinner…
What is a sinner? Webster Dictionary says; one that sins. That would be in thoughts and actions of ommission and comission. Romans reminds us
Romans 3:23
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. NLT
We are all born into this world as “sinners”. That’s why Jesus had to come and had to die.
Romans 5:8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. ESV
The whole purpose for Jesus coming was to provide a way for us not to have to remain under this sin curse, but to be saved from sin.
Isaiah 43:25
I—yes, I alone—will blot out your sins for my own sake and will never think of them again. NLT
WOW! I once was lost but now I am found…
II. Lukewarm…
Jesus said this to the church at Laodicea
Revelation 3:15-17
I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. ESV
Here’s a question to consider, How do I truly look when I am on fire for Jesus?
Jesus says Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. If you here today and you know your lukewarm towards God, can I encourage you to get back on track ASAP!
We all go through different seasons in our life and some will weigh us down and can cause a time of lukewarmness.
Lamentations 5:21
Restore us, O Lord , and bring us back to you again! NLT
AM I Lukewarm?
God’s Will is always to restore us and to grow us!
John 10:10
I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. ESV
III. Believer…
Disciple is a better word than believer. The disciple is marked by a NEWNESS of LIFE and newness of PERSON.
2 CORINTHIANS 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. ESV
So how do you see yourself?
Do you see yourself as a NEW CREATION in CHRIST?
Now remember this NEW CREATION is not perfect and is on a journey of development, of growth and of spiritual maturing. We call it sancitification.
Paul was writing to the Colossians about putting on the new self when he said
COLOSSIANS 3:9b-10
seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. ESV
Notice Renewed…future tense…we are working in progress.
God Loves you and Cares for you…daily! Moses was reminding the Jews of this
Deuteronomy 7:6
For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. ESV
As a healthy disciple of Jesus you should see yourself as God’s own child. Not because of what you do or don’t do…. but because you are convinced that He simply loves you.
Philippians 1:6
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. ESV
Who are you this morning???
Where are you in your faith journey?
Is it time for an examination???
