Genesis 49:28-50:26

50:1-11 | Jacob’s last request was to be buried in Canaan (47:2-30). When Joseph shared this with Pharoah, Egypts monarch gave Jacob a funeral worthy of a king out of respect for Joseph, sending all the servants of Pharoah and chariots and horsement in the funeral procession.

50:19-21 | Joseph’s brothers had nothing to fear - even at Jacob’s passing - because their brother, recognizing the sovereignty of God (God meant it for good), would not take God’s role as judge (am I in the place of God?). This is a lesson for every person who has ever been wronged.

50:22-25 | Even though Joseph lived most of his life as an Egyptian, he did not want his remains to stay in Egypt. He belonged with the Hebrew people in the Land of Promise (carry up my bones from here). In his dying moments, Joseph offered a testimony of faith in God’s promise.

50:26 | At Joseph’s death, he was placed in a coffin in the fashion of the Egyptians. Moses had Joseph’s remains carried from Egypt during the Exodus (Ex. 13:19); Joshua buried them at Shechem (Josh. 24:32).
