“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?” —Matthew 6:25
What happens to us when we get trapped in worry?
- Worry erodes your trust in God.
“Worry is focused on something undesirable that might happen, while faith is focused on a potential for a positive outcome based on God’s provision.” —Dan Reiland
Worry dilutes your ability to serve and to give yourself to others.
Worry zaps you of your physical, emotional, and mental energy.
How can we avoid getting caught in the trap of worry?
“Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?” —Matthew 6:26-30
- Know that He can; Know that He cares.
“So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.” —Matthew 10:31
“Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.” —Matthew 6:31-32
- Trust that God is good: Trust the He gives.
“He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” —Romans 8:22
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” —Matthew 6:33
- Seek God’s Kingdom first; Allow Him to take care of the rest.
Kingdom of God – wherever God is ruling and reigning.
“God promises to take complete responsibility for the life that is totally yielded to Him.” —Charles Stanley
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” —Matthew 6:34
“Cast all your anxiety on Him because he cares for you.” —I Peter 5:7
