Servants of Christ are “Prayer-

” people.

TO PRAY FOR

1 Timothy 2:1-2a
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority;

Praying is

to us as believers of Christ. He uses the words, “I ” meaning to encourage or to give understanding and encouragement with .

WE ARE TO PRAY FOR:
1.

men (mankind, humanity)
2. (of all nations, Nero’s ruling the present time)
3. All that are in (from the lowest rankings up)

TO PRAY

1 Timothy 2:1
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

We can see in this scripture the differnt ways of praying. Understanding this will help us in our prayer life. Let’s briefly speak to each of them.

This is a prayer aimed to our own , and of our insufficiency to that need. Jesus gives us an example of supplication by teaching His disciples how to pray.

Matthew 6:11
Give us this day our daily bread.

Paul says that we should give to prayer. By simply mentioning “prayer”, God draws us to the act itself. There is no need in elaborating where God speaks clearly. Prayer is not a simple task, but one that takes devotion and .

While prayer takes devotion, intercession takes and . An intercessory prayer is one that begins in the of a believer on of another person.

Matthew 5:44
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Once again we see that we are to exhibit a heart of gratitude. We are to be thankful in all things, especially in prayer.

TO PRAY

1 Timothy 2:2b
…that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

PRAY FOR A

Quiet means that we would not have troubles from .

PRAY FOR

We are secondly told to pray with (devotion, dedication to God). Then the other connection is (gravity, bringing back into reverence).

WE SHOULD PRAY

1 Timothy 2:3-7
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.

TO

TO BE LIKE

1 Timothy 2:5-6
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

Notice that there is only

and it is Christ Jesus. But the Old Testament teaches us that was a mediator of the law unto the children of Israel.

The scriptures tell us that Christ is “

than Moses”.

Hebrews 3:3
For this man was counted worthy of more

than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.

Ephesians 2:18
For through him we both have

by one Spirit unto the Father.

Hebrews 8:6
But now hath he obtained a more

ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better , which was established upon better .

Hebrews 9:15
And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of

Hebrews 9:24
For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into

Hebrews 12:24
And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh

things than that of Abel.

1 John 2:1-2
My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an

I will therefore that men pray

Malachi 1:11
For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in

incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts.

REFLECT

  1. In what way is praying the easiest thing to do? In what way is it the most difficult?

  1. What different kinds of people are there in your life? How do you pray for them differently?

  1. What kinds of prayers should you pray for politicians and government that you don’t agree with?

  1. Why is it important that Jesus is fully God and fully human?

  1. How does it encourage you to know that Christ is interceding for you right now?
