Shepherd

There is a desperate question on the lips of every individual. It is a poignant insistent question. The question is simply this—What is God like? The Power that rolls the planets on their course and draws the line of death across our human days—Who is He? The majestic Power that is the heartbeat of the cosmos—Who is He? This is the desperate, stinging, poignant question flowing from the lips of every man. Jesus answered the question in terms that every man of his generation could understand. “God,” He says, “is like a Good Shepherd.” —Martin Luther King Jr.

Main Scripture: Psalm 23:1
Big Question: What kind of Shepherd is Jesus?

The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. —Psalm 23:1

What kind of Shepherd is Jesus?
1.) He is a personal Shepherd

My Lord and my God!” Thomas exclaimed.

Can I honestly say that Jesus is MY Shepherd?

A sheep is an object of property, not a wild animal; and frequently it is bought with a great price. It is well to know, as certainly as David did, that we belong to the Lord. There is no “if” nor “but,” nor even “I hope so;” but he says, “The Lord is my shepherd.” If he be a Shepherd to no one else, he is a Shepherd to me; he cares for me, watches over me, and preserves me. —Treasury of David Commentary

The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. —Psalm 23:1

What kind of Shepherd is Jesus?
1.) He is a personal Shepherd
2.) He is a providing Shepherd

Fear the LORD, you his godly people, for those who fear him will have all they need. —Psalm 34:9

Some Christians have trusted God to save them for eternity, but they don’t have much confidence that he can provide for them in history. —Pastor Tony Evans

And it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life—this is indeed a gift from God. —Ecclesiastes 5:19

I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. 13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. —Philippians 4:12-13

The opposite of poverty isn’t wealth, and the opposite of wealth isn’t poverty. The opposite of both is enough. —Wess Stafford

The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. —Psalm 23:1

What kind of Shepherd is Jesus?
1.) He is a personal Shepherd
2.) He is a providing Shepherd
3.) He is a perfect Shepherd

I may not possess all that I wish for, but I shall not want. Come what may, if famine should devastate the land, or calamity destroy the city, “I shall not want.” Old age with its feebleness shall not bring me any lack, and even death with its gloom shall not find me destitute. I have all things; not because I have a good store of money or the ability to earn my bread, but because “The Lord is my Shepherd.” —Treasury of David Commentary

Are you truly my Shepherd?

Where in my life do I struggle to trust Your provision the most?

What or who in my life do I look to besides You for my contentment?
