Sermon Notes
The Superiority of Christ!
John 3:31-36
“31 The one who comes from above is above all. The one who is from the earth is earthly and speaks in earthly terms. The one who comes from heaven is above all. 32 He testifies to what He has seen and heard, and yet no one accepts His testimony. 33 The one who has accepted His testimony has affirmed that God is true. 34 For the one whom God sent speaks God’s words, since He gives the Spirit without measure. 35 The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hands. 36 The one who believes in the Son has eternal life, but the one who rejects the Son will not see life; instead, the wrath of God remains on him.” (John 3:31-36, CSB)
“3…remain in Ephesus so that you may instruct certain people not to teach false doctrine 4 or to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies. These promote empty speculations rather than God’s plan, which operates by faith.” (1 Timothy 1:3-4, CSB)
v. 31 “The one who comes from above is above all…The one who comes from heaven is above all
“1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 All things were created through Him, and apart from Him not one thing was created that has been created.” (John 1:1-3, CSB)
“32 He testifies to what He has seen and heard, and yet no one accepts His testimony. 33 The one who has accepted His testimony has affirmed that God is true. 34 For the one whom God sent speaks God’s words…”
“He that receives the testimony of Christ subscribes not only to the truth of Christ, but to the truth of God, for his name is the Word of God” ~ Mathew Henry
”This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased. Listen to him!” (Matthew 17:5, CSB)
“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth” (Matthew 28:18, CSB)
“God is infinite and, therefore, our sin against Him is an infinite offense. In order to atone for this offense, the sacrifice must be infinite. Jesus, as God, is infinite and thus able to be our sacrifice. (gotquestions.org)
“4 So He became superior to the angels, just as the name He inherited is more excellent than theirs. 5 For to which of the angels did He ever say, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father, or again, I will be His Father, and He will be My Son?” (Hebrews 1:4-5, CSB)
