Deuteronomy 1:2 says that It is eleven days’ journey from Horeb by way of Mount Seir to Kadesh Barnea.
The Lord wasn’t trying to bring them there fast. He was focused on bringing His people to Himself.
“Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘Let My people go, that they may hold a feast to Me in the wilderness. —Exodus 5:1
- Wilderness: midbar. It also means mouth, or the place of His voice! This is connection.
18 So God led the people around by way of the wilderness of the Red Sea. And the children of Israel went up in orderly ranks (armed, in battle array) out of the land of Egypt.
19 And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for he had placed the children of Israel under solemn oath, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here with you.”
20 So they took their journey from Succoth and camped in Etham at the edge of the wilderness.
21 And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night. —Exodus 13:18-20Then Joseph took an oath from the children of Israel, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.” —Genesis 50:25
- God’s presence was with them in a way they had never known. This is something that every believer needs to know.
