Be Real Together:
Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together. Trust and friendship take time to build. If you’re launching a new DNA, one person should tell their story — what do we need to know about you? Next week, have another person in your DNA share their story.

Hebrews 6:19 CSB

Grow Together: Observe and Apply
This week, Jeff Price shared about hope. Hope is essential to living. Without hope, we cannot go on.
Job 8:13 // “Such is the destiny of all who forget God;
the hope of the godless will perish.”
It is common to feel hopeless. And hopelessness may be rooted in so many different things:
- fear
- loss
- feeling wounded
- being alone
- lack of purpose
Having a sense of purpose and hope is critical for your life to move forward. Yet, hope is different than optimism.
Optimism says, “It might be bad, but it’s gonna be okay.”
Hope says, “It’s bad, but I still believe.”
Optimism is psychological.
Hope is theological.
Hope offers us so much more than optimism. It gives us purpose and the strength to keep going. There are three types of hope:
- Wishful hope - “I wish that would happen.”
- Expectant hope - We can predict something may hcome true based on previous experiences of that thing coming true.
- Certain hope - We can be absolutely certain of what we hope for.
Philippians 1:6 // “And I am certain that the God who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”
Hebrews 6:19 talks about hope as an anchor for our soul. Anchors provide two main things. They keep you from drifting. And they provide stability in the storm. When we anchor our hope in God, we can be certain that we will not drift and that we will have stability amidst the chaos of any storm.
How can we anchor our hope in God? (3 suggestions, 1 imperative)
1. Study God’s word (daily).
2. Meet with other believers.
3. Serve others with humility and love.
4. Imperative: Give your life to Him through his Son, Jesus Christ.
Questions to Discuss
- What does it look like to allow hope in Christ anchor your soul?
- How do you know that the hope God offers is certain hope and not wishful or expectant hope?
- Jeff talked about anchoring our hope in God through studying God’s word daily, meeting with other believers, and serving others with humility and love. Why do you think these actions keep us from drifting?
Pray Together:
Lord, thank you for offering us certain hope. Thank you for giving us stability in the storm. Teach us to know that you are stable and secure, even when we can’t feel it. We know that we fail to place our hope in you often. Show us how to put our hope in you and not in other people or things. May we live more abundant lives knowing that you are an anchor for our souls that will never fail. In Jesus’ name, AMEN.
