Have you ever said, “I am not religious I have a relationship with Christ?” I did but didn’t know what it meant to have a relationship with Jesus. Religion is man’s attempt to find God, but Christianity is a relationship where God pursues man. This morning I want us to understand how to get Closer to Jesus by looking at our Freedoms and Responsibility from Romans 8:14-17.
Often times we may know we are children of God but live more like

a. Where does the Spirit lead?
- We have “
- Apply to your life- Take advantage of going to God anytime. All other religions in our world have distant so-called gods. We have a God who came near and bids us come.
b. How does the Spirit lead?
- The word “Cry” here is the same word in Luke 19:40 where Jesus says, “If these were silent, the stones would cry out.” There is no need to be quiet or passive or distant when approaching God.
- The Spirit always leads us to relationship -
- The Word of God is a huge tool in our Freedom.
- Apply to your life- Set up times with God that affect your heart, soul, mind, and strength (reading and journaling and praying). No better time than the beginning of a New Year.
