We Bring Life: Church Life - Message Study Questions

Message Summary

Believers comprise The Church founded by Jesus. All are connected to Jesus and one another in the Spirit and should be connected to the local church to fulfill the Great Commission, to make disciples. How is this done? First, by being a disciple, understanding who we are, who God is, what He has done and how we are connected to God. Second, by making disciples, this involves using our gifts and talents to help others, both physically and spiritually, with the aim of making and building disciples. Real connection with the church involves a call to serve. Thirdly, Jesus said, “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5 NLT2). Any service we do, any prayer, any giving, any good deed is only effective in connection with Jesus Christ, through the empowering of the Holy Spirit. So believers are called to walk and serve by faith in conscience dependence on God. Therefore, we all have a huge overriding purpose and, therefore, we all have meaning. At Freshwater, we have a vision to bring life, our mission to make disciples, our core-values that clarify what we stand for and our strategic goals that help us wrap practical tangible actions to Jesus’ mission. Strategic goals are a bridge between our vision and day-to-day operations.

Consider This

Being “in Christ,” belonging to Jesus through faith, is the first step in joining the team. The Apostle said, “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ, (Ephesians 1:3 NLT2).

  1. Read Ephesians 1:3-14. How would you describe the spiritual blessings that you as a believer have in Jesus? Maybe make a list.

  2. How have the benefits described in this passage impacted your life today?

  3. How secure do you feel in your relationship with God?

  4. What is the work of God the Father, the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit in this passage?

  5. For which work of God are you most thankful for today?

  6. Read Ephesians 3:16-19. From this passage, list some ways you would like to grow as a Christian.

  7. Read Ephesians 4:11-16. What is the purpose of spiritual gifts? Do you know your spiritual gifts and talents?

  8. What is your responsibility to help others in the church? How does that play out in your life?

  9. What about serving others do you find hard to do? What are some things that have prevented you from serving others in the past?

    • How can you get past those things?

  10. How can you consciously depend upon God to help you accomplish serving Him and others this week?

  1. What could you do to say thanks to God for what he has done and is doing and will do for you this week?

  2. What is the best way to share with others the blessings God has given to you this week?

  3. What service could you do either for an individual or group this week that would help make disciples (build the church)?

  4. How does an attitude of humility help you make serving and putting others first a priority in your life?

  5. What will you change this week as a result of this message?
