Life Group Questions – July 24th & 25th 2021

This weekend Pastor Shay preached on how the enemy likes to use our pride to attack our relationship with God.

Pastor Shay talked about how the devil used David’s success to fuel his pride and move him to sin in his spirit against the Lord and His people.

Pride is at the foundation of our sin and is the enemy of love. In what ways can pride show itself (there are a great many)? How does pride tend to show itself in your life?
Read Matthew 6:1-6 and Romans 12:1-2, what does true humility look like? How can false humility still just be pride?

Pastor Shay talked about how pride can destroy our relationships with those who we love, with God, and our witness to the lost.

What is the place and importance of humility in our lives? In our relationship with God? Or with our loved ones? What does this demonstrate to the world? (John 13:35)
Has your pride damaged any of your relationships before? How does it affect your closeness with and dependency on God?

Pastor Shay talks about how pride is a false glory and a false joy, it is a tool that can be used to deceive us, and it was used against David.

Reflect on the fall of Lucifer and the original sin of mankind, where was pride amidst all of these? What does this show you about your own heart? Does the Devil place the pride in us?
Read 1 Chronicles 21:1, then verse 17. What does verse 1 show us about the state of David’s heart before counting the people? Was it difficult for the Devil to convince him? What was unique about his response in verse 17? What can we learn from this concerning when we have pride or commit sin?

Pastor Shay talked about how our greatest and only defense against Pride and the enemy is the indwelt Holy Spirit.

Considering the whole passage (1 Chronicles 21:1-17), what role did the Spirit of God play in this whole situation? Can you see this reflected in your own path of sanctification?
The process of sanctification is ongoing and we must never be complacent in it (read 1 Corinthians 13:8-13), How can you be continuously listening and sensitive to the convictions of the Holy Spirit?

Pastor Shay talked about how Joab gave David wise council and warned him against sinning, then Pastor Shay called for all of us to humble ourselves before the Lord to lay down our iniquities and pride before Him.

Do you have a Joab in your Life? Someone who will hold you accountable to your calling and convictions, and will pray with you through your struggles?
You have been given this fellowship (life groups) so that you may fellowship, grow together, and bear burdens with one another in Christ. With this in mind, take some time, as one group or in smaller groups, to lay down your pride and your sins before one another and the Lord. Pray for one another over these things and commit to encouragement and accountability to one another at least as often as you meet. We are not called to fight alone, neither in spirit or in the body of Christ.
