Hands Down, Hands Up

Hands Down, Hands Up is a Rhythm of Sonship. You will return to this rhythm before each calibration as you discover your story.

Give yourself at least 15 minutes for this.

We have a lot of voices & noise in our life: spouses, bosses, work associates, performance, etc. The list goes on. Most men carry their expectations, wants, and needs as burdens. Because we carry them, our hearts don’t have room for the words and heart of our heavenly Dad.

We must release (hands down) the voices and their barrage of burdens by entrusting our heavenly Dad with them. Only then can we receive (hands up) the gifts our good Father wants to give us.

Take ten minutes, extend your hands out, palms down. Pray and release the burdens you carry today: expectations, work, the to-do list, family, frustrations, etc. In your mind’s eye, imagine you are handing them to your heavenly Dad.

Some questions to think about:

  1. What is distracting me? (Tasks, worry, other voices, other sources, etc.)
  2. What is weighing me down? (Fear, doubt, condemnation, etc.)
  3. What feels heavy this morning?
  4. Who am I taking my questions, longing, affirmation, and validation to? Why?

Once you release the burdens upon your heart, keep your hands out and turn them over, palms up in a posture of receiving.

  1. Ask your heavenly Dad:
    a. What do you think of me? How do you see me, right now?
    b. How can I invest in our relationship today?
    c. Where are you calling me into growth in my life?
    d. How can I step into that with you today?
