Scripture: Acts 9:36-43
Takeaway: By imitating Christ we become more like him and bring other people’s attention to his glory.
Take some time to share:
• One thing that you are thankful for this week.
• One thing you need.
• How can the group help?
Bible Discussion: Read Acts 9:36-43
• What is the significance of the label of disciple when it is applied to Tabitha?
• What do you think it means to be a disciple of Christ?
• Does this story remind you of the story of Lazarus? How is it similar?
• Do you think that Peter knew what would happen when he told Tabitha to get up? Do you think that he was also shocked by the outcome?
• How might the resurrection of Jesus emboldened Peter to try something different?
Application: “Imitation is the greatest form of flattery.”
One of the best ways for us to honor Christ is to imitate Him in our own lives; but, the imitation of Jesus is not just about honoring Him, it’s also a means of salvation for us and others. By imitating Jesus, we are participating in the Kingdom at hand. We are actively participating in the call to help heal the brokenness that exist in our world.
• What gives you courage, like Peter, to imitate Christ?
• It’s interesting that Peter is the one who performs such a miracle, because he is previously known to be a doubter & denier. What does that say about the power of faith & the practice of imitating Jesus?
• We may never participate in a resurrection. How can we imitate him in our everyday lives?
• Lesser imitations than resurrection can still prove quite powerful when compounded over time. What would it be like to imitate Christ’s gift of compassion or justice, to extend welcome & hospitality to the other (the way Jesus did)? These small acts can feel like a resurrection to someone who is in need.
