40 DAYS OF PRAYER

Dangerous Prayers
February 14, 2021

I. Three responses to God’s call:

1. Jonah: here I am. I’m NOT going.

Jonah 1:2-3 - “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.” 3 But Jonah ran away from the LORD

2. Moses: here I am. Send SOMEONE else.

Exodus 3:10-11 – “So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” 11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”

Isaiah 6:8 - Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

3. Isaiah: here I am. Send ME.

II. What do you need to fully surrender to God?

1) A real experience with the PRESENCE of God.

Isaiah 6:1 - In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple.

Isaiah 6:3 - And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”

2) A real awareness of your SINFULNESS.

Isaiah 6:5 - “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.”

3) A real understanding of God’s GRACE.

Isaiah 6:6-7 - Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

Isaiah 6:8 - “Whom shall I send? … “Here am I. Send me!”

How do we learn to die daily to our flesh so our spirit would live?

• What we feed GROWS and what we starve DIES.

1 Corinthians 15:31 - I die every day — I mean that, brothers — just as surely as I glory over you in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Galatians 2:20 - I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
