Enough
The Strategy of Enough
Sometimes it’s not just a scripture or a practice but a word—that God uses in our minds and our hearts to transform us.
“He who reigns within himself and rules passions, desires, and fears is more than a king.”
—John Milton
I want to do what is right, but I can’t. 19 I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. 20 But if I do what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it.
—Romans 7:18b-20 (NLT)
For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.
—1 John 2:16,17 (NLT)
It is better to have self-control than to conquer a city.
—Proverbs 16:32 (NIV)
Like a city whose walls are broken through is like a person who lacks self-control.
—Proverbs 25:38
The STRATEGY TO ENOUGH ==== Self-control!
24 When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb. 25 The first to come out was red, and his whole body was like a hairy garment; so they named him Esau. 26 After this, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau’s heel; so he was named Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when Rebekah gave birth to them.
—Genesis 25:24-26 (NIV)
29 Once when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau came in from the open country, famished. 30 He said to Jacob, “Quick, let me have some of that red stew! I’m famished!” (That is why he was also called Edom.)
31 Jacob replied, “First sell me your birthright.”
32 “Look, I am about to die,” Esau said. “What good is the birthright to me?”
33 But Jacob said, “Swear to me first.” So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob.
34 Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and some lentil stew. He ate and drank, and then got up and left.
So Esau despised his birthright.
—Genesis 25:29-34 (NIV)
Esau People
are those who chose NOW at the expense of LATER.
