Is There a Remedy?

2 Chronicles 36:14-16 says:
Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of the LORD which he had hallowed in Jerusalem. And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place: But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

Listen to some of the first great leaders of our nation…

“While we are zealously performing the duties of good citizens and soldiers, we certainly ought not to be inattentive to the higher duties of religion. To the distinguished character of Patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of Christian.” —George Washington

“Suppose a nation in some distant Region should take the Bible for their only law Book, and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited! Every member would be obliged in conscience, to temperance, frugality, and industry; to justice, kindness, and charity towards his fellow men; and to piety, love, and reverence toward Almighty God … What a Eutopia, what a Paradise would this region be.” —John Adams

“God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the Gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever…” —Thomas Jefferson

“A watchful eye must be kept on ourselves lest while we are building ideal monuments of Renown and Bliss here we neglect to have our names enrolled in the Annals of Heaven.” —John Quincy Adams

“The gospel of Jesus Christ prescribes the wisest rules for just conduct in every situation of life. Happy they who are enabled to obey them in all situations! If moral precepts alone could have reformed mankind, the mission of the Son of God into all the world would have been unnecessary. The perfect morality of the gospel rests upon the doctrine which, though often controverted has never been refuted: I mean the vicarious life and death of the Son of God.” —Benjamin Rush

“The Bible … is a book worth more than all the other books that were ever printed.” —Patrick Henry

While you may think this is somewhat overkill, these are statements made by our leadership, and framers of this nation in which we call the United States of America. One thing we may agree on is this… We are long away from being that nation of the ONE true God today!

Let’s read again our text and keep in mind this scripture:
Psalms 33:12 says:
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

TRANSGRESSION IN EFFECTS THOSE WHO

2 Chronicles 36:14 says:
Moreover

the , , transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of the LORD which he had hallowed in Jerusalem.

There were many kings during these transgressions of Israel. Let’s describe and talk about the last few:
1.

: did what was right in the sight of the Lord. Brought a great revival through the Word of God being found.
2. : was twenty-three years old when he became king in his father’s place. He was wicked and led the people into idolatry. Necho, the Pharaoh of Egypt, took him captive and the next king was placed upon the throne of Israel.
3. : this king was placed in rule at the age of 25. The bible says, “he did evil in the sight of the LORD”. He reigned for 11 years and God had allowed Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, to come in and literally drag Jehoiakim out of Jerusalem into captivity.
4. : began his reign around 18 years of age. And he also, “did evil in the sight of the LORD”. Nebuchadnezzar’s second invasion took this king to Babylon as well as with other precious articles of the temple.
5. : was then placed upon the throne by Nebuchadnezzar (notice that God’s prophecy about Jehoiachin was true, he would never have a son to sit upon the throne. And never since that day has a king sat upon the throne of Israel). In the third invasion of Babylon, Zedekiah was also “evil in the sight of the LORD” Look at what these scriptures say about him:

2 Chronicles 36:11-14 says:
Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. He did evil in the sight of the LORD his God, and did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet, who spoke from the mouth of the LORD. And he also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear an oath by God; but he stiffened his neck and hardened his heart against turning to the LORD God of Israel. Moreover all the leaders of the priests and the people transgressed more and more, according to all the abominations of the nations, and defiled the house of the LORD which He had consecrated in Jerusalem.

The sinful steps of leaders will spill out into the streets of every nation! —Steve Abney

GOD THE OF HIS PEOPLE AND NATIONS

2 Chronicles 36:15 says:
And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place:

He sent prophets to share the compassion of His grace to the people. Listen to Jeremiah, who wept over the people and message, as he speaks these words of God to them:

Jeremiah 8:18-22 says:
When I would comfort myself against sorrow, my heart is faint in me. Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of them that dwell in a far country: Is not the LORD in Zion? is not her king in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, and with strange vanities? The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved. For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt; I am black; astonishment hath taken hold on me. Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?

Jeremiah asked God for the remedy:
Jeremiah 33:6-8 says:
Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth. And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first. And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, whereby they have sinned against me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, whereby they have sinned, and whereby they have transgressed against me.

OF THE , LEAVES US WITH NO

2 Chronicles 36:16 says:
But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

THERE IS AN

, THERE IS A !

Jeremiah 33:14-16 says:
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel and to the house of Judah. In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land. In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The LORD our righteousness.
