Four practical keys to Biblical giving:

I. Understand I should give.

  1. It is the

    thing to do.

    Proverbs 3:9-10 (NIV84) “Honor the LORD with your wealth…”

  2. It meets & supplies

    2 Corinthians 9:12 (NIV84) “This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.”

  3. It gives

    to God.

    2 Corinthians 9:13 (NIV84) “Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.”

  4. It acknowledges

    ownership, provision, and protection.

    1 Timothy 6:17,18 (NIV84) “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.”

  5. It robs money of its

    .

    Proverbs 13:8 (NIV84) A man’s riches may ransom his life, but a poor man hears no threat.”

  6. It advances the

  1. Why is it hard to listen to a preacher talk about money?
  2. Describe WHY it honors God when we give a portion of our money back to Him. What good does it do?
  3. How do you practically determine how much money to give away?
  4. How much money does God DESERVE? How much money does the Bible say God PRESCRIBES? (Hint: Read Malachi 3:7-10)
  5. Why is the tithe (proportional giving = 10% of your income) a good, relevant, and helpful biblical concept?
