DISCUSS
- As we have been looking at the Church Rediscovered, Pastor Doug has talked about the church 1) as displaying the wisdom of God, 2) as something through which God dwells, 3) as something that helps us mature in Christ, 4) as a pillar and foundation of the truth, 5) as invincible and 6) that Jesus is going to return for it. Which of the points above impact you the most?
- Relate the scriptures that the group read earlier to the symbolism of Jewish wedding traditions.
- In Revelation 1:7 and Matthew 24:30, we are told that Jesus’ return will be a source of regret for all tribes.. If we as Christians will feel regret at Christ’s appearance, how do you specifically think that Jesus’ return could become a source of regret for you as you consider those in your sphere of influence?
- As Christians today, we are walking by faith and not by sight. As you consider seeing Christ face to face, what do you imagine it will be like to be walking by sight instead?
- How often do you think about the return of Jesus? How does it change the way you live?
- The fact that Jesus will return should change the way we live. It should cause us to wait faithfully, watch for it expectantly, work wisely, witness boldly and worship joyously. Which of these would you say you do well? In which area do you realize you would like to grow? How specifically can you make that improvement happen?
- What are some of the cues Jesus has given us regarding his return for the church? Quickly scan Matthew 24-25 for some of them.
PRAY
Lord, excite me for your return. Please show me what changes I can make as I approach each day this week to live in more anticipation of your return because of the value you see in me and the depth of the love you feel for me.
