The Myth of More
Connection Points
January 16, 2023

The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. Psalm 23:1

Greed: The desire to acquire gone haywire.

The wise have wealth and luxury, but fools spend whatever they get. Proverbs 21:20

Just as Death and Destruction are never satisfied, so human desire is never satisfied. Proverbs 27:20

3 Myths of More

1) Having more will make me

.

Those who love money will never have enough. How meaningless to think that wealth brings true happiness! The more you have, the more people come to help you spend it. So what good is wealth—except perhaps to watch it slip through your fingers! Ecclesiastes 5:10, 11

Enjoy what you have rather than desiring what you don’t have. Ecclesiastes 6:9

2) Having more will make me more

.

Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.” Luke 12:15

3) Having more will make me more

.

Trust in your money and down you go! But the godly flourish like leaves in spring. Proverbs 11:28

The rich think of their wealth as a strong defense; they imagine it to be a high wall of safety. Proverbs 18:18

But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. 1 Timothy 6:9

HOW DO YOU ENJOY LIFE MORE ON LESS?

The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, Psalm 24:1

1) I find my

in helping others.

You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35

2) I find my

in knowing God.

God says, “Because you are precious to me, you are honored, and I love you.” Isaiah 43:4 (NLT)

Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Matthew 6:26

But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. Romans 5:8

3) I find my

in trusting God.

The Connection Church Word for 2023: TRUST

Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” Hebrews 13:5

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21

“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19
