The Way: Missional Worldview
1. Jesus calls us to live
.
Matthew 5:13-16
“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.
“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.
Matthew 28:19
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
We are not just
to go on a mission trip, or give to a mission cause, we are called to live missionally.
2. Jesus
a missional worldview.
Acts 1:6-8
So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, “Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?” He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Life is not just about our
, our
, our
, our
, or our
. Life is about purpose –God’s purpose!
3. We have been
with God’s plan of reconciliation.
2 Corinthians 5:18-20
And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us.
Missional living is not just about responsibility. It’s about a
and a
for those who are lost.
4. What we know, how we live, and how we talk
to those around us far from God.
1 Peter 3:15
…And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.
Colossians 4:5-6
Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.
Questions
1. What is our current world view?
2. Is the way we live our lives attractive to those around us who are not yet believers?
3. What do we need to adjust to adopt a missional worldview?
