Summary

This sermon challenges us to examine how they are identified in the world—whether as followers of Jesus or as just another person blending into the culture. Using Matthew 26:69-75, the account of Peter’s denial of Jesus, the message explores how our words, actions, and character reflect (or deny) Christ in daily life.

Being Identified as a Follower of Jesus

A personal story of someone being recognized as a “church-going guy” sparks the central question: Does the world see Jesus in us?

Just attending church doesn’t make someone a follower—actively following Jesus does.

Peter’s Denial & The Power of Our Words (Matthew 26:69-75)

Despite Peter’s attempts to blend in, others still identified him as a disciple.

In his fear, Peter not only denied Jesus but also used cursing to further separate himself.

This raises a convicting question: Do our words and actions deny or confirm our faith?

The Impact of Our Speech (James 3:10, Ephesians 4:29, Colossians 3:8, Matthew 12:34-37)

Scripture warns against corrupt speech, reminding us that our words flow from our hearts.

Every idle word will be judged—does our speech glorify or deny Jesus?

Living a Life that Reflects Christ

When people observe our daily interactions, do they see Christ in us?

Our identity should be unmistakably found in Jesus—not in the world.

Closing Challenge: How Are You Identified?

We should strive to be known as men and women of God, just as others have left that legacy before us.

Inspired by St. Patrick’s Prayer, Pastor Randy prays that Christ be seen in every word, action, and interaction in our lives.

Practical Application

Examine Your Speech (James 3:10, Ephesians 4:29)

Pay close attention to the words you use in conversations, social media, and even your thoughts.

Challenge yourself to speak in a way that reflects Christ—encouraging, uplifting, and honoring God.

Live in a Way That Identifies You with Jesus (Matthew 5:16, Colossians 3:17)

Ask yourself daily, “If someone observed my actions today, would they know I follow Jesus?”

Look for at least one opportunity this week to reflect Christ’s love through kindness, generosity, or sharing your faith.
