Living in Babylon

Devotional

In today’s world, it often feels like we’re living in a modern-day Babylon, where Christian values are under constant pressure. Daniel and his friends faced similar challenges when they were taken from Jerusalem to Babylon. Despite the immense pressure to conform, they remained steadfast in their faith. They drew clear boundaries on what they would and would not compromise. This teaches us the importance of discerning where to draw our own lines, based on Scripture and our relationship with God. Reflect on the non-negotiable aspects of your faith. What are the areas where you need to stand firm, regardless of the pressures around you? Remember, God’s kingdom is eternal and unshakable, regardless of earthly chaos. By knowing God deeply through His Word and prayer, we can navigate a hostile world with hope and courage.

Bible Verse

‘Daniel purposed in his heart, I will not defile myself with the king’s meat.’ - Daniel 1:8

Reflection Question

What are the non-negotiable aspects of your faith that you need to stand firm on, regardless of the pressures around you?

Quote

What do we do when we realize that the place where we’re living is less like Jerusalem and more like Babylon?

Prayer

Lord, help me to discern the areas where I need to stand firm in my faith. Give me the courage to draw clear boundaries and remain steadfast, just as Daniel did. Amen.

The Eternal Kingdom

Devotional

The world we live in has changed, and it often feels like the culture is leaving us behind. But we must remember that God’s kingdom is eternal and unshakable. Regardless of what happens around us, the systems of this world do not dictate what the kingdom of God does. This truth should give us immense comfort and hope. As followers of Christ, we have a mandate to live, function, think, breathe, and behave in a way that reflects our faith. This is completely irrelevant to what’s going on around us. Our focus should be on God’s eternal kingdom, not on the temporary systems of this world.

Bible Verse

‘Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.’ - John 18:36

Reflection Question

How can you shift your focus from the temporary systems of this world to God’s eternal kingdom?

Quote

The eternal kingdom of God is not shaken, is not threatened, and is not destroyed by what happens by unearthly things.

Prayer

Lord, help me to focus on Your eternal kingdom and not be swayed by the temporary systems of this world. Give me the strength to live out my faith regardless of the circumstances. Amen.

Navigating a Hostile World

Devotional

The culture around us is changing, and it’s not always in a good way. We see weird stuff happening, and it can be easy to feel overwhelmed or fearful. But as followers of Christ, we are called to navigate this hostile world with hope and courage. By knowing God deeply through His Word and prayer, we can find the strength and guidance we need to stand firm. God’s Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. It equips us to face any challenges that come our way with confidence and faith.

Bible Verse

‘He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber.’ - Psalm 121:3

Reflection Question

How can you deepen your relationship with God through His Word and prayer to navigate a hostile world with hope and courage?

Quote

Know God deeply through His Word and prayer, we can navigate a hostile world with hope and courage.

Prayer

Lord, help me to know You deeply through Your Word and prayer. Equip me to navigate this hostile world with hope and courage. Amen.

Standing Firm

Devotional

Regardless of what is coming, we have a responsibility as followers of Christ to stand firm in our faith. This means trusting that God will guide and strengthen us through any challenges we face. Daniel and his friends stood firm in their faith, even in the face of immense pressure. We can do the same by relying on God’s strength and guidance. Prepare to stand firm by grounding yourself in God’s Word and prayer. Trust that He will give you the strength and courage you need to face any challenges that come your way.

Bible Verse

‘Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.’ - Luke 21:36

Reflection Question

What steps can you take to prepare yourself to stand firm in your faith, regardless of the challenges you may face?

Quote

Prepare to stand firm, trusting that God will guide and strengthen you through any challenges you face.

Prayer

Lord, help me to prepare to stand firm in my faith. Guide and strengthen me through any challenges I face. Amen.

Treasures in Heaven

Devotional

In a world where people often act out of fear and uncertainty, it’s easy to get caught up in storing up treasures on earth. But Jesus reminds us not to store up treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. Instead, we should store up treasures in heaven. Our hope should not be in the systems of this world, but in God’s eternal kingdom. By focusing on heavenly treasures, we can find peace and security that the world cannot offer. Trust in God’s promises and keep your eyes fixed on Him.

Bible Verse

‘Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.’ - Matthew 6:19

Reflection Question

How can you shift your focus from storing up treasures on earth to storing up treasures in heaven?

Quote

Don’t store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.

Prayer

Lord, help me to focus on storing up treasures in heaven rather than on earth. Give me the wisdom to trust in Your eternal promises. Amen.
