WARM UP QUESTION
Which is the greater tragedy: an innocent person imprisoned or a guilty person set free? Explain. [Today we are going to look at the way that God justly deals with sin and guilt.]
HEAD: These questions help us examine the Word.
1. Can someone summarize the argument that has been made up through Romans 3:20?
2. Read Romans 3:20-31. What are some repeated words or themes in these verses? How would you define those words (righteousness, justify, etc.).
3. How does the cross demonstrate God’s righteousness?
4. What pictures does Paul use to describe how Jesus’ sacrifice can make us righteous? How do each of these pictures reveal something unique about what Jesus did for us?
5. Why doesn’t God “just forgive” sins?
6. Why does faith exclude boasting?
HEART: These questions help us wrestle with what we believe.
7. Have you come to recognize your need for the cross? If so, how and when did that happen?
HAND: These questions help us bring truth and beliefs into our everyday life.
8. How do you live differently when you believe that the cross is necessary and the cross is enough?
