As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.”
He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
Stories of Women …
- John 20
Acts 2:16-18 (NIV)
… this is what was spoken of by the prophet Joel:
“‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy … . Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.’”
Romans 16:1-2 (NIV)
I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a deacon of the church in Cenchreae. I ask you to receive her in the Lord in a way worthy of his people and to give her any help she may need from you, for she has been the benefactor of many people, including me.
Romans 16:7 (NIV)
Greet Andronicus and Junia, my fellow Jews who have been in prison with me. They are outstanding among the apostles, and they were in Christ before I was.
1 Corinthians 14:26, 31-35 (NIV)
What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each one of you has a hymn, or word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up.
(vs.31) For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged. The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets. For God is not a God of disorder but of peace – as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people.
Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.
1 Corinthians 14:26, 31 (NIV)
… brothers and sisters … .
… you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged.
1 Corinthians 14:39 (NIV)
Therefore, my brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues. But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way.
1 Corinthians 14:35 (NIV)
If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home … .
1 Timothy 2:11-15 (NIV)
A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man, she must be quiet. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. But women will be saved through childbearing – if they continue with faith, love and holiness with propriety.
Examples …

2 Peter 3:15-16 (NIV)
Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
