A Praying Mother

Main Point: The best thing a mother can do for her sons and daughters is to become a praying woman.

Why should we pray?

Because scripture tells us to.

“Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. —Colossians 4:2

God wants to spend time with you.
James 4:8, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”
Revelation 3:20 “Here I Am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”

Prayer changes our circumstances and leads to breakthrough

“Do not be anxious in anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” —Philippians 4: 6-7,

We have an adversary

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world in undergoing the same kind of sufferings.” —1 Peter 5:8-9

How do we pray?

Follow Jesus’s example
The Lord’s Prayer,

“Our Father in Heaven, hallowed by thy Name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” —Matthew 6:9-13

Pray with authority knowing who you are in Christ

Now if we are children, then we are heirs- heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ. If indeed we share in His sufferings in order that we may also share in His glory.” —Romans 8:17

“You are no longer a slave, but God’s daughter, God has made you His heir. —Galations 4:7

“Likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weakness for we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words —Romans 8:26.

Pray with Persistence and Expectation
Hannah’s prayers changed a nation.

“Oh Lord of Hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give your maidservant a male child, than I will give him to the Lord all of the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.” —1 Samuel 1:11

Takeaway: Become a woman who prays and models prayer for her children and others. Make prayer a priority as you navigate motherhood.
