Holy Spirit: One Who Convicts

  1. The Holy Spirit is: the Spirit of God; Counselor; Comforter; Coach; Advocate; Strengthener; Sanctifier; Spirit of Truth; Spirit of Grace; Spirit of Mercy; Spirit of Holiness; Spirit of Life; teacher; reminder, testifier of Jesus Christ, and the One who of sin.
  2. It’s easy to assume that “conviction means condemnation,” but the Word says in Romans 8:1: There is therefore now condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me from the law of sin and death.
  3. According to the Webster’s dictionary, the word means to censure or to scold and correct, usually gently with kindly intent.
  4. Reprove comes from the Greek word (el-eng’-kho) meaning: to expose, convict, or to - for the purpose of conviction – as we would see in the convicting of a lawbreaker in a court of law.
  5. God reveals the awesomeness of His love by allowing us true repentance and restoration as the Holy Spirit touches our human soul and its sinful condition.
  6. The drawing of a person’s heart to Jesus is done through the work of the .
  7. Without the exposing work of the Holy Spirit, we would in our sins and darkness, eternally lost without God!
  8. It is incredible how many people realize their “fallen condition,” and yet the real eternal consequences of what that means.
  9. I’m sure it amazes God how people can be in a great church service, hear the un-compromised Word of God, acknowledge that they are a lost sinner, yet leave the service and on with the same lifestyle they lived prior to hearing the truth!
  10. Thank God for the diligent working of the Holy Spirit who lovingly cross-examines people until He finally brings them to a place of .
  11. The Holy Spirit never “cross-examines” someone in order to condemn them, but rather, to convince them of their need for a !
  12. It requires the special, supernatural work of the Holy Spirit to the human conscience to realize its sinful condition.
  13. Only through the convicting power of God’s Word and the Holy Spirit can a spiritually dead man be awakened and to Christ.
  14. There is greater miracle than that of witnessing an unbeliever receive Jesus; it is miraculous to watch them learn His ways, and then go out and do the works of Christ.
  15. The convicting, reproving, cross-examining work of the Holy Spirit is only of the foundational work that He does in our lives, but it’s certainly not the last!
