Lust is talked about 29 times throughout Scripture.
The word is never used in a positive context; rather, it is always seen in a negative light, relating primarily either to a strong desire for sexual immorality or idolatrous worship. In the New Testament, the word moves from referring primarily to idolatry to referring instead almost exclusively to sexual immorality.

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5
It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate

like the pagans, who do not know God…

Colossians 3:1-2, 5
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your

on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your on things above, not on earthly things… Put to , therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, , evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.

Matthew 5:27-30
27  “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’  28  But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman

has already committed adultery with her in his heart.  29  If your right eye causes you to stumble,  it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.  30  And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

To get rid of lust, you must be both and !

For the director of music. A psalm of David. When the prophet Nathan came to him after David had committed adultery with Bathsheba.
1  Have mercy on me, O God,
    according to your unfailing love;
according to your great compassion
    blot out my transgressions.
2  Wash away all my iniquity
    and

 me from my sin.
3  For I know my transgressions,
    and my sin is always before me.
4  Against you, you only, have I sinned
    and done what is evil in your sight;
so you are right in your verdict
    and justified when you judge.

10  Create in me a

heart, O God,
    and renew a right spirit within me.
11  Do not cast me from your presence
    or take your Holy Spirit from me.
12  Restore to me the joy of your salvation
    and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
