“meh FIB oh sheth”

KING DAVID AND MEPHIBOSHETH

“Is there anyone remaining from the family of Saul I can show kindness to?”

Mephibosheth, a son of Jonathan, who is crippled (2 Samuel 4:4)

David could have seen Mephibosheth as a threat

David makes sure Mephibosheth gets the property rightly belonging to him

David promises that Mephibosheth will “always eat at my table”

LIKE MEPHIBOSHETH, WE NEED TO RECEIVE THE KING’S MERCY AND GRACE

The Lord tells us “not to be afraid” (Hebrews 4:16; 1 John 4:18)

The Lord invites us to eat at His table

The Lord treats us as His sons and daughters (1 John 3:1)

We should humbly and gratefully receive the King’s mercy and grace

LIKE DAVID, WE NEED TO SHOW GRACE AND MERCY TO MEPHIBOSHETHS

We should serve family members and friends who have passed away

We should work to make sure people are treated fairly

We should befriend people with special needs

Our ability to show grace to others depends on our experience of God’s grace
