I AM…Calling - Message Study Questions

Message Summary

God doesn’t have to blow up your life to get your attention. You don’t have to reach the bottom
to start looking up. God doesn’t always use those types of situations. Moses didn’t fall into a pit
he could not get out of unless God delivered him. God used a bush that was on fire.
The problem is when you are wandering, you are not seeking God, you are just trying to
get up every day.
If you are wandering just going through life you can seek God with all your heart by calling on
the heart of God in prayer, by reading the bible, and by talking to trusted believing friends.

  1. Have you experienced a time that it was difficult for God to get your attention?

  2. What are some of the ways that you hear the voice of God? What are some things that distract you from paying attention to God?

Consider This

God prepared Moses to rescue the Israelites from the slavery in Egypt. Moses jumped a little ahead of God when he killed the Egyptian, it was not God’s timing. God was able to get Moses’s attention by using an unusual situation- a bush on fire that isn’t being consumed. Then Moses tells God all the reasons that he cannot be the leader God called him to be. Ultimately, Moses did to what God asked him to do.

  1. Esther 6:1-12 When God wants us to do something he uses lots of ways to get our attention. How did God get the kings attention?

  2. I Samuel 3 How did God get Samuels’s attention?

  3. What are some ways that God might have tried to get your attention or ways he is trying to get your attention now?

  4. We often don’t spend time quietly listening for God’s voice. What are some things you do to listen for God to speak, and how do you know it’s God speaking?

  5. Exodus 3:4-6 Just like Moses we hide. What are some reasons we hide from God?

  6. When you know what God wants you to do, what are some things that keep you from obeying? What are your excuses?

  7. Hebrews 3:1-6 What does this passage show us about our calling?

  8. What is Moses best remembered for in V5?

Moving Forward- Application

Where are you at today? Is God trying to get your attention? Are you listening for God’s voice? Are you making excuses or doing what God asks you to do? Or are you wandering around, just not paying attention.
1. How could you practice listening for God’s voice this week?

2. What specific thing(s) can you start doing to be obedient to God’s voice?
