1/19 Thresholds Week 3 - One More – Sharing your Faith

Week 1:
- Prayer KEY 1: Recognize WHO God is - Our Father
- Prayer KEY 2: Seek to know HIS will: His Kingdom
Week 2:
- Fasting creates an opportunity to deny ourselves and bring greater alignment and unity with Christ.
- As we do this, we hear God as He reveals areas of our lives where God is working – clears up the FOG.
Threshold #3: Mission
- 1 Timothy 2:4, God’s desire is that “everyone to be saved and to understand the truth”
- John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
MISSION was the FIRST thing and the LAST thing that Jesus said to His disciples:
- Matthew 4:18-22, “While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. 19 And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” 20 Immediately they left their nets and followed him. 21 And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. 22 Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him”
- The COMMISSIONING: Matthew 28:18-20, “Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
- “Becoming and making disciples of Jesus as we Gather, Grow and Go”
- Protégé Effect: By teaching, we learn.
How do we share our faith? How do we engage in discipleship?
- Jesus taught us that we learn best in a group.
- Share it: Make a disciple
Professor Daniel McNaughton, “How do you know if you have made a disciple – they have made one.”
- SEEK: Luke 19:10, “For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”
- CONNECT: look to make a connection.
Sharing our faith Step 1: REMEMBER THE MISSION - Rescue mission.
- John 3:16-18 (The Message), “This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him.”
- Sharing our faith Step 2: Love People.
- John 13:35, Jesus said, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
- Loving ourselves more than others is the biggest barrier to sharing our faith.
- Luke 14:25-27, “A large crowd was following Jesus. He turned around and said to them, 26 “If you want to be my disciple, you must, by comparison, hate everyone else—your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple.27 And if you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple.”
- In prioritizing Jesus and dying to myself, I am positioning myself to truly LOVE others.
How to talk to people about Jesus
- LOOK for a conversation: Luke 19:10, “Jesus came to SEEK and to save the lost”
- START a conversation:
- Matthew 10:14, “If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet.”
- Go from a GOOD conversation to a GOD conversation
- INVITE Them
Response
- Who is your ONE MORE: Who are you reaching for Christ?
- INVITE “One More.”
- Invite to church and ask out afterwards for lunch.
- Invite to your group. Start a group with them.
- Invite to coffee, lunch, breakfast
- What are the hurdles you need to overcome/surrender in order to “Reach one more?”
- Clarity on the Mission: Rescue “Seek and save the Lost.”
- Pride, fear of rejection, loneliness…
