Trusting in Steadfast Love
Pastor Caleb Yetton (caleb@trc.life)
Psalm 13:1-6 How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? 2 How long must I take counsel in my soul and have sorrow in my heart all the day? 3 Consider and answer me, O Lord my God; light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death, 4 lest my enemy say, ”I have prevailed over him,” lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken. 5 But I have trusted in Your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. 6 I will sing to the Lord, because He has dealt bountifully with me.
3 Ways to Live Out Trust in The Lord
I. Trust in what is true
*Proverbs 14:12* There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.
Proverbs 3:5-7 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. 7 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil.
II. Trust the promises of Jesus
*Psalm 13:5-6* But I have trusted in Your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. 6 I will sing to the Lord, because He has dealt bountifully with me.
STEADFAST
-securely fixed in place; immovable
-not subject to change
-Firm in determination, or adherence; loyal
Jeremiah 31:3 NLT Long ago the LORD said to Israel: “I have loved you, My people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to Myself.
Isaiah 41:8,10 But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham, my friend… 10 fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
1 Peter 2:9-10 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
JOHN 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
MATTHEW 28:20b And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
III. Trust is an active choice
Psalm 62:8 Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.
Have you placed your trust in Jesus?
Psalm 13:5-6 But I have trusted in Your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. 6 I will sing to the Lord, because He has dealt bountifully with me.
“Our perceptions will not necessarily be accurate, because what we feel to be the case is not the case. But, it doesn’t alter the fact that we feel it to be the case.” — Alistair Begg
“It is some ease of troubled spirit to give vent to it’s griefs, especially to give vent to them at the Throne of Grace, where we are sure to find One who is afflicted in the afflictions of His people.” — Matthew Henry
“What God ordains is always good: He is my Friend and Father;
He suffers naught to do me harm though many storms may gather. Now I may know both joy and woe; some day I shall see clearly
that He has loved me dearly.
What God ordains is always good: this truth remains unshaken. Though sorrow, need, or death be mine, I shall not be forsaken.
I fear no harm, for with His arm He shall embrace and shield me;
so to my God I yield me.”
