Make Room

1. Making Room For .

  • Throughout scripture, we see a theme of making room for God - a place for Him.

And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. —Luke 2:7

  • We make room for the Lord through time in the word, worship and prayer. It’s an attitude of devotion - setting aside time; lingering.

  • There is a holy

in every heart that can only be filled by God Himself.

When Jesus heard it, He departed from there by boat to a deserted place by Himself. —Matthew 14:13

  • Deserted = Lonesome, desert, desolate, solitary, wilderness. The wilderness is the place of God’s voice.

  • For Jesus this was a

, a habit, a part of his life rhythm.

  • We will make our home somewhere, the question is where?

  • When we make room for God in our lives - intentional, set aside space, we learn to rest our hearts in His Presence.

I have set the Lord

before me; because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved. —Psalm 16:8

Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. —John 14:23

  • “Emmanuel” means God with us. “ ” means us with God.

Love God, Grow Together, and Serve Others.

  • Making room for God corresponds to our Love God component.

  • Making room for people corresponds to our Grow Together and Serve Others components.

2. Making room for .

“Sing, O barren,
You who have not borne!
Break forth into singing, and cry aloud,
You who have not labored with child!
For more are the children of the desolate
Than the children of the married woman”, says the Lord.
2 “

 the place of your tent,
And let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings;
Do not spare;
Lengthen your cords,
And strengthen your stakes.
3 For you shall to the right and to the left,
And your descendants will inherit the nations,
And make the desolate cities inhabited.” —Isaiah 54:1-3

  • Enlarge - to widen or broaden; to make room.
  • Expand - to spread abroad, to burst out, to break through. To surpass limits.

  • As we spend time in His Presence, there is quickly a desire to

    the joy of His Presence.

  • As we spend time in His Presence and receive His Love, our hearts are also filled with love for people.

For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love

one another. —Galatians 5:13

37 When John’s two disciples heard this, they followed Jesus.
38 Jesus looked around and saw them following. “What do you want?” he asked them.
They replied, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”
39 “Come and see,” he said. It was about four o’clock in the afternoon when they went with him to the place where he was staying, and they remained with him the rest of the day.
40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of these men who heard what John said and then followed Jesus. 41 Andrew went to find his brother, Simon, and told him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means “Christ”).
42 Then Andrew brought Simon to meet Jesus. —John 1:37-42

  • Kingdom principle - What God does in your life doesn’t with you. It flows through you.

Your people shall be volunteers in the day of Your power; —Psalm 110:3

  • Your people will offer themselves willingly in the day of Your power. This is a “here I am, send me” attitude.

29 Now as soon as they had come out of the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30 But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick with a fever, and they told Him about her at once. 31 So He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them. —Mark 1:29-31

So He touched her hand, and the fever left her. And she arose and served them. —Matthew 8:15

And immediately she arose and served them. —Luke 8:39

When the sun was setting, all those who had any that were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them. —Luke 8:40

  • Francis of Assisi said, “Start by doing what’s

, and then what’s possible, and suddenly you are doing the .”

  • Service makes room for

    .

  • others in love sets the stage for revival!
