Week 6: 1 Timothy 4:1-6
October 9-15
Overview: Paul continues to instruct Timothy in what he should point out to his fellow brothers and sisters as he is “nourished on the truths of the faith and with the good teaching” he has followed. Paul lets Timothy know he will encounter others with false teachings that deny good things like marriage and certain foods. What God has made is not to be rejected but accepted with a thankful heart. So much rebellion in the human experience happens when we do not follow the created order of God and consecrate everything God has made with God’s Word and prayer. Consecration is the action of making or declaring something to be sacred. It is a hallowing or blessing. Recently, as Charles was made the King of England, his anointing involved the Archbishop of Canterbury pouring holy oil consecrated in Jerusalem from two groves on the Mount of Olives. It was poured from the Ampulla onto the Coronation Spoon as part of the most sacred part of the ceremony. In this act of consecration, King Charles was hidden from the public by the Anointing Screen. This moment of anointing was regarded as a solemn moment between just the Sovereign and God. This earthly example of consecration emphasizes its seriousness and preciousness. With scripture and prayer, we can consecrate each part of our own lives, walking through life in a consecrated manner.
