SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS

WARM UP: Share a time you did something embarrassing in public. What was your immediate reaction? [Today’s verses are about being unashamed of Jesus.]

HEAD: These questions help us examine the Word.
1. Read 2 Timothy 1:7-18. In verses 7 & 8, Paul connects fear and shame. How are these two emotions related, especially when it comes to our faith?
2. What are some reasons that Timothy might have been tempted be identify publicly with Jesus?
3. How does the gospel itself—the good news of Jesus’ death and resurrection—empower us to overcome shame and fear?
4. What are some specific ways people might experience shame or ridicule for being associated with Jesus today? Think about different contexts like work, school, family, and social circles.
5. Paul gives two contrasting examples: Phygelus and Hermogenes, who deserted him, and Onesiphorus, who was unashamed. What can we learn from these examples about the importance of holding onto sound teaching and remaining faithful?

HEART: These questions help us wrestle with what we believe.
6. Are there areas in your life where you feel tempted to downplay your faith or avoid identifying with Jesus?

HAND: These questions help us bring truth and beliefs into our everyday life.
7. Pray for one another, asking God to give you boldness and courage to live unashamedly for Him.
