
“The Unexpected King”
Mark 11:1-10
I. THE KING’S PREPARATION (Mark 11:1-6)
Observations:
- Jesus knew exactly what was needed and where to find it.
- The disciples obeyed His instructions, even when they didn’t fully understand.
Application Questions:
Are you willing to follow God’s instructions, even when they don’t make complete sense at the time?
Are you willing to surrender to His calling?
II. THE KING’S PRESENTATION (Mark 11:7-8)
Observations:
- Jesus presents Himself as King, but not in the way people expected.
- The crowd responses to Jesus as King…for now.
Application Questions:
Who do you see Jesus as?
Are you looking for Jesus to come on your terms, or are you ready to embrace Him as He is?
III. THE KING’S PRAISE (Mark 11:9-10)
Observations:
- The phrase “Hosanna!” bridges praise and prayer.
- The crowd’s celebration is real, but their understanding is limited.
Application Questions:
Are we praising Jesus for who He is or just what we want Him to do?
Will your worship last beyond the moment of celebration, even when His plan looks different than yours?
IV. THE KING’S PURPOSE: The Jesus they WANTED vs. the Jesus they GOT
They wanted a Jesus who fixed
They got a Jesus who fixed our
They wanted a Jesus who destroyed the
They got a Jesus who destroyed the stranglehold of
They wanted a Jesus who judged
They got a Jesus who dealt with our
V. RESPONDING TO THE KING: How do we respond when the Jesus we GET isn’t the Jesus we WANT?
