Resurrection Sunday
Holy Week
Did you know there are 63,779 cross references in the bible?
Jesus fulfilled hundred year old prophecies down to the detail.
MAIN IDEA:
The story of Jesus is amazing.
Just knowing about Him won’t change you. Experiencing Him will
Background of Isaiah:
Who: Isaiah. One of the most powerful prophets of the Old Testament. He was believed to be sawed in half during the reign of Manasseh.
What: Part of the major prophet books.
Where: Isaiah was a prophet of Judah (Southern Kingdom).
*When: The Book of Isaiah was written almost 700 years before Christ came. *
- Our chapter was written to the Jews who were captured in exile. The Northern kingdom had already fallen and the Southern kingdom was under constant attack and would fall not too long after Isaiah wrote this. Isaiah was giving hope to the nation of Israel. He told them they would have a coming messiah who would deliver them. It was because they were in captivity when he told them that they assumed it would be a political deliverance.
KIND OF LONG – Hang with me
*Isa 53:2-11 - 2 My servant grew up in the Lord’s presence like a tender green shoot, like a root in dry ground. There was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance, nothing to attract us to him. 3 He was despised and rejected—a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care. 4 Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows[a] that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! 5 But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. 6 All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all. 7 He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. 8 Unjustly condemned, he was led away.[b] No one cared that he died without descendants, that his life was cut short in midstream.[c] But he was struck down for the rebellion of my people. 9 He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man’s grave. 10 But it was the Lord’s good plan to crush him and cause him grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have many descendants. He will enjoy a long life, and the Lord’s good plan will prosper in his hands. 11 When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of his experience, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins. NLT
Things we can learn from Isaiah’s 700-year-old prophesy:
# 1. It was OUR sin and weaknesses that sent Jesus to the cross. V. 4-5;11
Sin = Missing the mark – Falling short - Separation - things that separate us from God.
- Holiness = Come together. Draw closer to God.
(Think of separation) –
Isa 53 – Vs. 4-5 NLT - Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down…5 But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins (separation). He was beaten so we could be whole…
*Vs. 11b - MSG - He took on his own shoulders the sin (separation) of the many,
*
ILLUSTRATION: Example from courtroom:
2. The Lord’s good plan will prosper in his hands. 11 When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied v 10-11
We see the Lord’s good plan did in fact play out…
Matthew 28:1 - Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb. 2 Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. 3 His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. 4 The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint. 5 Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying. 7 And now, go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Remember what I have told you.” NLT
1 Corinthians 15:17-20 - 17 And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless and you are still guilty of your sins…20 But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead. He is the first of a great harvest of all who have died. NLT
My question to you:
Do you believe it?
But have you experienced the effects of it?
Romans 8:33b-34 – 33b…for God himself has given us right standing with himself. 34 Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us…NLT

MY STORY –
- In front of a party in high school -This isn’t what I want… I really miss Jesus
Romans 10:9-10 - 9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. NLT
WHAT ABOUT YOUR STORY?
The reason why Easter is important is because the resurrection tells us that what God did for you and I, He does for everyone.
1 Peter 1:3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation NLT
ASK YOURSELF:
Have I experienced true repentance and salvation in Jesus Christ?
Have I been born again?
CLOSING CHALLENGE:
Will you choose today to give your life fully to Jesus?
Will you live the resurrected life He has called you to live? Throwing off those things that represent the grave in your life?
If you prayed the prayer to start fresh with God today text “startagain” (one word) to 97000 so we can connect with you and help you take the next steps in this amazing decision.
