The Spirit of Adoption

The Father sent Jesus and several things happened:

A. Redeemed:

• Romans 3:23-24 ESV
  [23] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

B. Saved:

• Ephesians 2:8 ESV
  [8] For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,

C. Adoption:

• Galatians 4:4-7 NLT
  [4] But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. [5] God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. [6] And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” [7] Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir.

Let’s look at what happens when we’re adopted.

Adoption (Definition):
To choose someone,To choose something as your own. To wish for to take on and take in.

1. Parents Declare Intent To Adopt:

   • Ephesians 1:4-5 NLT
     [4] Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. [5] God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.

2. The next thing that happens is an agency will do a home study:

     [23] Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.

3. Write an Auto biographical statement:

   • Father God, telling you where you fit in. Who he is. How much he loves you. His story becomes your story

     [26] Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?
