The grace of God marks the lives of those who receive it.

The grace of God coaches and enables us to live differently.

In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness 8 and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us. —Titus 2:7-8

Grace comes first; good works follow.

For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. —Titus 2:11

Grace as a coach…

  • Teaches us.

It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, … —Titus 2:12

  • Disciplines us.

No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. —Hebrews 12:11

  • Transforms us.

… while we wait for the blessed hope – the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, … —Titus 2:13-14a

The mark of grace…

  • Eager to do good.

…a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. —Titus 2:14

What will you do with the sanctifying grace God has shown?

Let’s Talk About It

We all have goals in terms of how we want to grow and improve, but there’s often a seemingly infinite gap between our intentions and our actions. Changing seems easy, but in reality, it’s easier said than done. The grace of God empowers us to live differently. It’s our coach who teaches us, disciplines us and transforms us to be people who are eager to do good works.

Titus 2:7-14; 2 Corinthians 12:9-10; Hebrews 12:5-11; Matthew 5:13-16

  • Which part of the message made an impact, caught your attention or challenged you?

  • Read Titus 2:7-14. How does God, through grace and the process of sanctification, “coach” us to live the Christian life? What area in your life are you currently trusting God’s grace to transform?

  • Read 2 Corinthians 12:9-10. What are some of the ways God can use our weakness and brokenness? Where are you needing the sufficiency of God’s grace in your weakness?

  • Read Hebrews 12:5-11. When have you experienced God’s discipline? How have you seen it produce a harvest of righteousness and make you more like Jesus?

  • Read Matthew 5:13-16. What would it look like for you to be eager to do good works and be salt and light in your family, your workplace, your community, your campus?
