Colossians 4

“ ² Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. ³ And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. ⁴ Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. ⁵ Be wise in the way you act towards outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. ⁶ Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” —Colossians 4:2-6

(1.) As we align our lives with Jesus, be devoted to prayer

“ ² Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” —Colossians 4:2

“ ¹⁶ Be joyful always; ¹⁷ pray continually…” —1 Thessalonians 5:16-17

“ ²⁵ Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” —Galatians 5:25

“ ⁸ Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.” —Psalm 62:8

“ ¹⁴ Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we possess. ¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. ¹⁶ Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” —Hebrews 4:14-16

(2.) Know your story, and speak your story as God opens doors

“ ³ Pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. ⁴ Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.” —Colossians 4:3-4

“ ¹⁶ I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes.” —Romans 1:16

“ ¹² Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me really served to advance the gospel. ¹³ As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. ¹⁴ Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly.” —Philippians 1:12-14

(3.) We influence others by how we live and love in ordinary moments

“ ³⁴ A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. ³⁵ By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” —John 13:34-35
