God’s Heart For People
What is it? Well, actually, it’s one of the great mysteries of Christianity. It’s a totally different way to understand life. It sounds confusing, but it’s beautifully simple. Finding the meaning behind this mysterious word will help you live like you’ve never lived before.

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Who have been some of the biggest influences in your life? How have they influenced you?
Study
Read Matthew 5:13-16
There is an expectation that followers of Jesus, who live for His Kingdom will impact the world. They will be difference makers in the lives of other people. Jesus uses two different images to illustrate this point in the Sermon on the Mount.
In this passage, Jesus isn’t making a command, but stating an observation. He is saying that when you live for His Kingdom, you will influence the world. When you think about that, what kind of emotions does it stir up inside you?
What are some ways that you have seen people influence others for God’s Kingdom?
Chad said, “Both salt and light have to infiltrate to be effective.” What do you think that means for us as Christians?
Read Matthew 5:43-48
Who are some people in your life that are difficult to love? Why do you think that Jesus calls the church to love people that the rest of the world might not love?
Reread verse 48. Chad mentioned that the word translated perfect (in the NIV) really carries the idea of complete, full, mature, and not lacking anything. What does a full, complete life look like to the world? How does that contrast with what a full, complete life should look like for a follower of Jesus?
What’s Next
How can you be a difference maker this week? If you were at church, you got a salt packet as you left the service. Where are you going to put your salt packet so that you are reminded of who God has called you to be?
Prayer
Ask God to help you be a difference maker this week. Ask Him for opportunities to love people who you may not normally show love to.
“In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” –Matthew 5:16
