Confess “Jesus is Lord” and commit your life to Him.

Mark 12:35–37

v. 35—Jesus is still teaching in the temple.

—He presents a question based on a belief commonly held by scribes (previous opponent): Whose son is the Messiah/Christ?

The Messiah is derrived from a Hebrew term Meshiah (משׁיח) meaning “Annointed One.” The Jewish people believed that the Spirit of God would empower the Messiah to function as priest and king of God’s people. As time went on, the belief became that the Messiah would come from the line of King David (2 Samuel 7).

v. 36—Jesus quotes Psalm 110:1 (the most quoted verse in the New Testament)

—David was viewed as a prophet (2 Samuel 23).
—Jesus makes it clear that the Holy Spirit prompted David’s words.

v. 37—How can the Messiah be both David’s son and also his Lord?

—The people enjoyed what Jesus said, perhaps because they believed He had come to restore Israel.

Jesus receives the titles of God—Son of God, Holy one of God, the Son of the blessed.

Jesus possesses the features of God—He is good; His glory radiated brighter beyond description.

Jesus performs actions only God can do—He forgives sins; He stops the storms; He walks on water; He perceives thoughts.
