Message Notes:
Relationships have the potential to divide the home when they introduce a dysfunction.
Boundaries are the best solution to dysfunctional relationships.
Are boundaries really ok?
Romans 12:8
If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all people. (NASB)
God establishes boundaries through his teachings and covenants.
Boundaries are an act of love for all people involved.
Relational dysfunctions exist in the difference between responsibility and access.
Boundaries can be hard because we get used to certain dysfunctions.
Boundaries can be hard because we have difficulty saying no.
Boundaries avoid extremes and allow us to have a healthy conversation on things that bother us.
If I don’t have a healthy conversation with the person who is bringing the pain into my property:
1.) I will be perpetually run over and usurped while perhaps even making excuses for the person who is doing it.
2.) I will one day explode like a volcano with rage against the person with all the pent up hurts and frustrations.
Proverbs 15:18
A hot-tempered person stirs up strife, but the slow to anger calms a dispute. (NASB)
How do I set a boundary?
AND language and not BUT language
I love you and value our relationship and I need something in order to have a healthy relationship …
When you come over to our house, I need you to not demean my wife’s cooking or cleaning. We want our home to be filled with love and respect and this is not helping with the process. Can you help me with that?
I love you and value our relationship and I need something in order to have a healthy relationship …
Boundaries are always tested.
Hey, remember when I said I value our relationship??? Then you did it and if you decide to continue to do it then we can’t have a relationship.
Boundaries always need to be evaluated.
Maybe the boundaries is too tight?
Maybe I need to assert the boundary better?
Maybe it is time to take this boundary down?
Keep close to Jesus and he’ll get you through.
Isaiah 58:11
And the Lord will continually guide you,and satisfy your desire in scorched places, and give strength to your bones; and you will be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water whose waters do not fail. (NASB)
If you prayed the prayer to start fresh with God today text “startagain” (one word) to 97000 so we can connect with you and help you take the next steps in this amazing decision.
