Give a What?

What is the tithe?

means ‘tenth part’ (ie., 10%)

- In the Hebrew religious culture there were 3 tithes in the Old Testament law: two every year and a third every third year, for an average of 23.3 percent of one’s annual income.

The tithe is a

relationship between God and His people whereby we have the opportunity to put God first above every other affection and desire in our lives by recognizing His Lordship and our dependency on Him. In exchange for this recognition, God promises His blessing and favor on every area of our lives.

TEXT: Malachi 3:7-12 (ESV)

WHY IS THE TITHE IMPORTANT FOR ME TODAY?

Helps me to acknowledge everything

to the LORD.

“The earth is the LORD’S, and everything in it, the world,
and all who live in it.” (Psalm 24:1)

“The silver is mine and the gold is mine,” declares the
 LORD Almighty. (Haggai 2:8)

“Remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you
the ability to produce wealth.”  (Deuteronomy 8:18)

Reinforces my

in God above everything else.

Malachi 3:10 “Put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, …”

It is a

expression of my covenant relationship with God.

(My trust / obedience is met by His provision / blessing.)
