Part 3: Lifting Our Hands to the Lord
Confronting Self-Will
✓ To grow in our relationship with God and to walk in His will and ways, it requires tremendous
✓ We must confront two massive influences:
•

When we lift our hands:
1) We declare our
.
(Genesis 14:22-23) But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “With raised hand I have sworn an oath to the Lord, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, that I will accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the strap of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, ‘I made Abram rich.’
2) It’s an act of

(Exodus 17:8-11) The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.” So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning.
(Exodus 17:12) When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset.
(1 Timothy 2:1-4, 8) I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people — for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth… Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing.
3) We are

(Psalm 63:3-4) Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.

(1 Kings 8:54) When Solomon had finished all these prayers and supplications to the Lord, he rose from before the altar of the Lord, where he had been kneeling with his hands spread out toward heaven.
(Lamentations 3:41 KJV) Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.
