PREPARE
Returning to our John study, we will pick up in the second half of chapter 14. Jesus is talking with the 11 remaining disciples (Judas has left to betray Him), giving them words of hope, instruction, and comfort. He promises to send the Holy Spirit, a helper who will teach them and remind them of everything Jesus has said to them. He promises that because He lives, they also will live. He connects obedience to Him with love for Him. All these things Jesus tells His disciples to prepare them for what is to come, so that when everything happens, they will know where Jesus is and believe!
Prepare for this week’s message by reading John 14:15-31

REFLECT
1. What impacted you most from this week’s message? What challenged you or encouraged you?
2. How much have you heard about the Holy Spirit in the churches you have attended? How does the conversation about the Holy Spirit make you feel? Why?
3. Read John 14:15-21. What is the connection between loving Jesus and obeying His commands? (See 1 John 2:3 and 1 John 5:3-4) Why are love and obedience so important? Why can’t you have one without the other? How did Jesus demonstrate this pattern during His earthly ministry?
4. How was the Holy Spirit described by Jesus? What does the Holy Spirit do? Where will the Holy Spirit be in relationship to the Disciples? How long will He stay with them?
5. Read John 14:22-24. What did Judas ask Jesus? Why does he ask this question?
6. How did Jesus indirectly respond to Judas’ question? What did Jesus’ answer reveal about a disciple’s relationship with God?
7. Read John 14:25-31. What is the Holy Spirit’s role related to truth and guidance? What is the difference between the peace Jesus offers and the peace the world offers?
8. What reassurances did Jesus give His Disciples about His death and resurrection? Why would these words be important once Jesus was taken?
9. What did Jesus say about “the prince of the world”? Why are His words important to understanding what was about to happen to Him?
