READ AGAIN: Luke 9:18-27
- We’ve been told twice now who the people were saying Jesus was. (vs. 7-8,19) What are common misconceptions about Jesus’ identity today, whether inside or outside the church?
- To this point, the disciples haven’t made any claims about who Jesus is. Why does He ask them to here? What should our takeaway from this section of the story be?
- How is it that people or groups get so far off in who they think Jesus is?
- Here again, Jesus instructs His disciples not to tell anyone that they thought He was the Messiah. (v.21) This seems so foreign to us. Discuss why you think that He did this here.
- Imagine you were one of the 12. What would have been running through your mind as Jesus talked about what the Son of Man must do? (v.22)
- In your own life, what does denying yourself look like?
- Jesus says that we must take up our cross daily. Why is the “daily” there so important?
- Following Jesus means going where He leads. How do we live that out?
- In this passage (vs.23-26) Jesus gives us a whole model for the Christian life. Today, tomorrow and all the way to His second coming. While many Christians might view salvation as simply “going to heaven when we die,” why is it important that we remember that we are on a journey?
- Talk about a time in which you were ashamed of Jesus or His words.
- Pastor Chris focused in on his understanding of verse 27. Have you heard any others? Is there more you’d like to discuss about its meaning?
- What will you try and remember throughout this week of what Jesus has taught here?
