Sermon Series: HOW BIG IS GOD
Sermon Title: “Big Enough to Keep Me Secure”
INTRO: Instead of spending all day focusing on the size of your
Historical Context of I Peter: It was A.D. 64, the month of July, Rome was burning to the ground. Tradition (although not really proven) says that the Roman Emperor Nero literally set fire to his own city and sat on his balcony playing the violin as he watched Rome burn to the ground. The bottom line is this:
HOW DO WE KNOW THAT WE ARE SECURE:
1. We are
a. God the Father chose us before the foundation of the world
b. God the Son chose us 2,000 years ago on the cross
c. God the Holy Spirit chose us the day we were saved
2. We are
a. Ephesians 2:1 tells us that our first birth was disappointing
b. John 3:3 tells us that we must be born again
3. We are
a. To the Jews “inheritance” meant the Promised Land
b. To every Christian “inheritance” means Heaven
4. We are
a. This literally means to be constantly guarded by God Himself
b. I can’t keep myself
CLOSE (Doxology): “To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy…to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.” (Jude 1:24-25)
