I appeal to you, brothers, bear with my word of exhortation, for I have written to you briefly. —Hebrews 13:22 ESV
This writer shows Jesus is greater in His person and His work.
Angels [servants] can protect us physically, but only the Son can save us spiritually!
Jesus is fully God, but He’s also fully man.
The great recovery.
But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. —Hebrews 2:9 ESV
(1) Jesus took on human flesh.
(2) Jesus lived a perfect life.
(3) Jesus died in our place.
Don’t turn from Jesus, draw near to Him.
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. —Hebrews 4:15 ESV
The Wizard of Oz is not sympathetic!
We have a God who entered humanity and knows what you’re going through!
The first covenant never gave a person assurance that their sins were removed.
Jesus is our greater sacrifice.
he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. —Hebrews 9:12 ESV
Jesus is a greater priest, with a greater covenant, by a greater sacrifice for a greater redemption!
Jesus is a final sacrifice, a willing sacrifice, and a divine sacrifice.
Our entire Christian life is lived by faith.
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. —Hebrews 11:1 ESV
Faith is a substance.
Faith is evidential.
Christians endure to the end because we have real faith that has substance and evidence.
For by it the people of old received their commendation. —Hebrews 11:2 ESV
The Old Testament saints were saved by faith.
We have a greater life!
…receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken… —Hebrews 12:28 ESV
Hebrews 13 is a short synopsis of Christian morality.
We hold fast because Jesus is superior.
Big Idea:
Hold fast to Jesus because of who He is and what He has accomplished for us!
