READ AGAIN: Jonah 3

  1. There is no “plan B” with God. How does verse 1 reinforce that idea for us?
  2. Is God’s call to Jonah unique? How does it align with God’s call to you and I as Christians?
  3. How do you sometimes “bargain with God” and try to lessen His expectations for your life?
  4. Do you believe that God has a plan for you?
  5. Jonah isn’t at liberty to say to the Ninevites whatever he wants. He must proclaim to them the message that God has given him. How is it that we sometimes water down the message God has given us?
  6. Discuss how it is that all creation obeys the will of God except those created in His image.
  7. How has God roused you from your disobedience in the past?
  8. Why do you think the author highlighted 3 days in Nineveh and 3 days in the belly of the fish? What is the significance of letting us know that? (v.3)
  9. 40 day periods are often times of testing in the Bible. If that’s the case here, who was the test for?
  10. There were many reasons for Jonah to disobey God.
  11. The Ninevites responded by believing, proclaiming and putting on sackcloth. (v.5) How does their example inform us as Christians today?
  12. Discuss the ideas of Believing and Repenting. This seems to have always been the call of God on humanity. How do those two fit together in coming to Christ?
  13. Jonah presumed upon God’s mercy for Him. The King of Nineveh didn’t. (v.9) How do we sometimes presume upon the mercy of God?
  14. In this story pagans outshine prophets. Have you ever seen non-christians set a better example than Christians? What did that look like?
  15. How must the story of Jonah impact the way we view others who are different?
